Avon Cape Cod Pieces Value
Our detailed research at Antiques Know How’s on several eBay sales indicates that Avon’s 1876 Cape Cod pieces sell for $10 to $120+, with large sets hitting $500 to $800+. Most collectible pieces include heart trinket boxes, heart-shaped dishes, two-tier servers, footed stemware, pedestal cake stands, large oval platters, large pitchers, and hostess bells. Check the color consistency, Roman Rosette hobnail pattern, raised Avon base marks, and heavy construction for authenticity!
Antiques Know How
Mostly famous for its perfume bottles, Avon introduced its first-ever range of dinnerware and tableware, called the 1876 Cape Cod Collection, in 1975. This range was inspired by the Roman Rosette pattern from Boston & Sandwich Glass Works, a renowned pressed-glass manufacturer on Cape Cod.
The line is called “1876” because it honors the Philadelphia Centennial Exposition, marking the 100th anniversary of American Independence. All 37 pieces of this range were made by Wheaton Glass Company for Avon between 1975 and 1993.
No new pieces have been made since the company’s closure in 1993. That closed supply is what drives collector interest today.
Popular Avon Cape Cod Pieces to Find Now!
Every piece in the Cape Cod collection shares some defining features that distinguish it:
- Consisted of deep ruby red color across the body (and every piece)
- The same Roman Rosette design of hobnail-and-medallion pressed pattern across the body.
- A raised “Avon” mark at the base of each piece
- A heavy and thick body
- Faint mold seams (since pressed in molds)
Pieces without this design and without the Avon mark are NOT from this collection.
Generally, full Avon Cape Cod sets fetch the highest prices of $500 to $800+. But certain pieces are more collectible individually, particularly the serving and entertaining pieces, which were made in smaller quantities than the everyday dinnerware.

1. Covered Heart Trinket Box

This charming lidded heart-shaped Cape Cod box was part of Avon’s vanity or giftware line. It features a removable lid with the Roman Rosette pattern on top.
This is easily one of the most unique and popular pieces among collectors! The value lies in the lid, since it’s separate and often goes missing! A complete set with lid in pristine condition can fetch $70 to $95 (or more with box) today!
2. Heart-Shaped Dishes

More desirable than standard dinner plates, these are flat, open heart-shaped dishes. The hobnail pattern covers the full interior surface, with the heart embossed in the center.
These are often used as a “garden party” or a nut dish. The value lies in their unique shape and completeness; sets of four or more can sell for $100 to $125.
3. Rim Soup Bowls

Soup bowls are among the most collectible pieces in the line. They have flat rims with shallow wells, unlike the smaller, footed dessert bowls. This style was made in lower quantities than the standard bowls, making them slightly more valuable. Especially in original boxes, they are a valuable find.
4. Two-Tier Server with Brass Handle

One of the more formal pieces in the line, this serveware piece features a small plate stacked above a larger one, joined by a classic brass-tone handle. It’s often used for tea sandwiches or petit fours.
A new-in-box set with both plates and an intact, tarnish-free handle can sell for $70 to $90!
5. Footed Saucer Champagne/Sherbet Glasses

These are wide, shallow-bowled glasses on a square pedestal base, used for either champagne or sherbet. Avon’s original pieces are sometimes called “saucer champagne” glasses.
These pieces are more collectible and valuable as a set of four or six in good condition.
6. Pedestal Cake Stand and Serving Knife

7. Quarter-Pound Covered Butter Dishes

The butter dishes are another primarily collected piece from the Cape Cod collection. These have a rectangular base and a domed lid with an acorn-shaped hobnail finial.
New-in-box examples sell reliably for $45–$55. Loose, used pieces without the original box run $35–$45.
8. Hurricane Candle Holder/Lamps

The hurricane lamp is a decorative Cape Cod piece that comes in two parts: a ruby red hobnail base and a clear glass chimney globe. The clear globes are fragile and often go missing, so a complete base-and-globe pair is more desirable.
9. 13″ Large Oval Serving Platters

Large serving platters are one of the most collectable pieces in the Avon Cape Cod Collection. These have a scalloped edge with the Roman Rosette pattern running around the rim.
These platters were sold individually, not as part of a set, and examples in original Avon boxes can go for $30–$45 today.

This is the larger of the two pitcher sizes in the Cape Cod line: a 46-ounce large water pitcher and the smaller 4-ounce creamer pitcher. With a huge capacity, it’s both functional and collectible. In excellent condition, large pitchers can fetch $30–$50.

The decanter is one of the most recognizable pieces in the collection. It’s a tall, round-bodied bottle with a narrow neck and a matching hobnail stopper.
The stopper is a separate piece and frequently gets separated or broken over the years, so finding one with the original stopper intact adds to the value.
12. Oil & Vinegar Cruets with Stopper

A cruet is a small pitcher or pouring vessel used to hold oil or vinegar. It features a pointed glass stopper, a delicate handle, and a hexagonal footed base.
Like wine decanters, cruets are commonly found without their stoppers. So, a stopper-complete example is worth more. Two cruets were sometimes sold as a set (one for oil, one for vinegar), but they’re often sold separately in the market.
13. Footed Flower Vases

The Cape Cod vase has a trumpet-shaped opening that flares wide at the top, sitting on a hexagonal, hobnail-covered footed base. It’s a quite commonly available piece in the collection, keeping prices modest!
14. Display Hostess Bells

The Cape Cod bell is one of the more affordable pieces in the collection. Designed purely for decoration, this 7-inch bell features a glass (or metal) clapper that produces a soft ring. It was often sold as a holiday or anniversary gift.
The original Avon box identifies it as the “Hostess Bell,” and these can sell for $12–$20 in good condition.
